What is the ZOSI Default Password? (2026 Guide)

Few things are more stressful than being locked out of your own security camera system, especially when you need to download critical footage after a security incident, adjust camera motion zones, or pair your smartphone to a new app. You try your usual variations, but your recorder keeps displaying a stubborn "Incorrect Password" message.

As professional security camera technicians serving homeowners and business owners across Northeast Ohio, the team at Cleveland Security Cameras handles locked-out CCTV recorders every single day. ZOSI is an incredibly popular budget-friendly brand for DIYers, but their default password configurations and recovery pathways can be tricky to navigate.

In this comprehensive 2026 Guide, we will detail exactly what the ZOSI default password is, how it works, and how to safely execute a system reset to regain access.

The Quick Answer: What is the ZOSI Default Password?

If you are setting up a brand-new ZOSI NVR or DVR, or if your system was recently restored to factory defaults, try these standard credentials first:

Device Type

Default Username

Default Password

Most ZOSI DVRs & NVRs

admin

Blank (Leave the field entirely empty)

Legacy ZOSI Cameras / Alternative

admin

admin or 123456

The 2026 "Blank Password" Trap: When you log in for the very first time, the default username is admin (all lowercase), and the password field should be left completely blank.  However, modern ZOSI systems will immediately force you to undergo Device Initialization. The startup wizard will not let you view your cameras remotely until you create a custom, strong password (at least 6 characters, mixing letters and numbers). If you bought a home with a pre-existing system and "blank" doesn't work, the previous owner set a custom password.

3 Ways to Reset a Forgotten ZOSI Password

If the default blank password field does not work, your system is locked down with custom credentials. Because ZOSI firmware does not feature a simple "physical reset button" on most recorder models, you must use one of the following recovery paths.

Method 1: The "Super Password" (Official Support Route)

This is the most common and official way to bypass a locked ZOSI DVR or NVR. It requires generating a temporary master key based on your unit's unique system details.

1.Write Down Your System Date and Time:Note the exact local system clock.

Look closely at the live view screen on your TV or monitor. Write down the exact date and time currently displayed by the recorder (even if the time is completely wrong). Do not reboot the system after noting this, as the clock must match when you input the reset key.

2.Locate Your System UID / Device ID:Find the hardware identifier.

Look for a silver or white barcode sticker on the bottom or side of your physical recorder chassis to find the UID/Device ID (a long string of letters and numbers). Alternatively, reboot the recorder and look at the "Startup Wizard" screen to find the QR code/UID.

3.Contact ZOSI Support:Send details to service@zositech.com.

Email ZOSI technical support at service@zositech.com. Provide your system’s Model Number, Device UID/ID, and the exact system date/time you wrote down in Step 1.

4.Apply the Super Password:Keep old password field blank.

Within 24 hours, ZOSI support will email you a temporary Super Password. Log into the recorder with the username admin and enter the Super Password. Once inside, go to Main Menu > Setup > User, leave the "Old Password" field blank, and save a new custom password.

Method 2: The "ZOSI Smart" Mobile App Reset (For Connected Systems)

If your NVR or DVR is connected to your local internet router and was previously paired with your smartphone, you can use your phone to bypass the screen.

1.Access the Forgot Password Option:Bring up the login screen.

With your USB mouse and local monitor connected, try logging into the NVR and click on Forgot Password. A recovery QR code will display on the screen.

2.Scan the QR Code with Your App:Available on iOS and Android.

Open the ZOSI Smart (or ZOSI View) app on your phone. Go to your profile/device management settings, choose the password recovery scanner, and scan the QR code on your monitor.

3.Receive the Verification Link:Check your email inbox.

The app will sync with the ZOSI cloud servers and send a password reset link to the email address registered to your ZOSI mobile app profile. Click the link on your phone to authorize the credentials change.

4.Establish a New Password:Lock in your new code.

Once authorized on your phone, your physical monitor screen will refresh, allowing you to enter a brand-new administrator password.

Method 3: Standalone ZOSI IP Camera Hard Reset

If you are locked out of an individual standalone ZOSI Wi-Fi or PoE camera rather than a physical recorder, you can perform a quick mechanical hard reset.

  • Step 1: Locate the physical Reset Button on the camera. This is usually protected under a small weather-resistant rubber flap on the camera body or on the pigtail cable splitter.

  • Step 2: Ensure the camera is plugged into power.

  • Step 3: Press and hold the reset button for 10 to 15 seconds. The camera may click or give a voice prompt ("Reset Successful").

  • Step 4: Re-open your ZOSI Smart app to add the camera back as a new device and set a new password.
