What is the Default Amcrest Password?
As of 2026, most Amcrest security cameras and NVRs do not come with a fixed default password. For security reasons, Amcrest now uses an "initialization" process that requires you to create your own unique password during the first setup.1
However, depending on the age of your device or the software you are using, you may encounter different login scenarios. Here is the complete breakdown.
1. Initial Setup (New or Reset Devices)
When you first power on a new Amcrest device or perform a factory reset, it is considered "uninitialized."
Username: admin
Password: admin (or blank)
The Process: Upon your first login, the system will immediately prompt you to create a new password.2
Minimum Requirements: At least 8 characters, typically including a mix of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and numbers.
Recommendation: During this step, always set up a recovery email or security questions to avoid being locked out in the future.
2. Legacy Amcrest Default Credentials
If you are working with an older Amcrest unit (pre-2018) or specific legacy software, the following factory defaults were commonly used:
Item | Default Value |
Username | admin |
Password | admin |
Old Analog DVRs | 000000 or 123456 |
IP Address | 192.168.1.108 |
HTTP Port | 80 |
TCP Port | 37777 |
3. The "Verification Code" Method
For many Amcrest Wi-Fi cameras and Doorbell cameras, you may not find a password in the manual. Instead, look for a sticker on the physical body of the camera.
Look for: "Safety Code," "Verification Code," or "Reg Code."
How to use it: When adding the camera to the Amcrest Home or Amcrest View Pro app, use this 6–10 character code as the "Device Password" to establish the initial connection.
4. Troubleshooting: Default Login Fails
If admin/admin does not work, it means the device has already been initialized with a custom password. To regain access, you have two options:
Physical Reset: Press and hold the reset button on the camera (usually located near the SD card slot) for 10–15 seconds while the device is powered on.3 This will return it to the admin/admin state.
NVR Hardware Reset: Most Amcrest NVRs require you to open the metal case and hold a small "Reset" button on the motherboard for 15 seconds while plugging the unit into power.
