What is the Swann Default Password?
As of 2026, the concept of a "default password" for Swann systems has mostly been replaced by a mandatory setup process.1 If you are setting up a new system, you will be forced to create a unique password immediately.
However, if you are working with an older unit or have just performed a factory reset, here are the credentials to try.
1. Common Factory Credentials (Older Models)
If your DVR/NVR is an older model (pre-2020) or has been successfully hardware-reset, try these combinations:

admin | 12345 | Common on older 720p/1080p units. |
admin | 123456 | Used on certain HomeSafe series recorders. |
admin | admin | Standard on very early analog legacy systems. |
2. Modern Systems (The "No Default" Rule)
For any Swann system featuring 4K resolution, Thermal Sensing, or Swann Security App integration, there is no factory-set password.
The Startup Wizard: When you first turn on the recorder, it will automatically launch a "Wizard." It will not let you view cameras or enter the menu until you create a password that meets modern security standards (usually 6–32 characters with a mix of letters and numbers).
3. How to "Reveal" Your Password via the App
If you have already set up your system and simply forgot the password, you might not need to reset it.
Open the Swann Security App.
Go to More > Select your recorder.
Tap on the Password field (look for the "eye" icon or six periods).2
Use your phone’s FaceID, Fingerprint, or PIN to verify your identity.3
The app will show you the current admin password saved for that device.4
4. Troubleshooting: Default Login Fails
If you've tried the blank password and 12345 and neither works, the system is already "Active" with a custom password. You have two choices:
The "Super Password" (MAC Address)
Many Swann units can be unlocked using the MAC Address as a master code.5
Click Forgot Password on the login screen.
Enter the MAC address (found on a sticker on the bottom of the unit) into the password field.6
Format: BC:51:FE:11:22:33 (Try it with and without colons depending on your model).7
The Hardware Reset
If all else fails, locate the Reset Button on the back of the unit or inside the casing on the motherboard.8
The Hold: Press and hold the button for 30 seconds while the unit is powered ON.
The Result: This wipes all settings and returns the unit to the admin / (blank) state.
