What is the Default Password for Lorex?

If you’re setting up a Lorex system for the first time or trying to log into a unit that’s been in storage, the "default password" question is the first hurdle. However, in 2026, the answer is different depending on how old your system is.

For most modern Lorex systems, there is no default password. Here is the breakdown of how to log in.

1. Modern Lorex Systems (Manufactured after 2019)

If you have a 4K NVR, a Fusion system, or a Wi-Fi camera, it likely comes with no factory password.

  • The Rule: Lorex now requires "Device Initialization." When you first turn on the NVR or add a camera to the Lorex Home app, the system forces you to create your own password.

  • The Benefit: This prevents hackers from using automated tools to guess common passwords like admin or 12345.

2. Older Lorex Systems (Legacy DVRs)

If you are working with an older "Black Box" or "Eco" series DVR, try these common factory defaults:

Username

Default Password

Notes

admin

000000

The most common legacy default.

admin

admin

Used on very early analog models.

admin

123456

Common on certain "Cloud" series models.

Leave the password field empty and hit enter.

3. The "Hidden" Default: The Device Verification Code

For many Lorex Wi-Fi cameras and Doorbell cameras, you won't find a password in the manual. Instead, look for a sticker on the side or bottom of the camera labeled "Safety Code" or "Verification Code."

  • The Code: This is usually a 6-to-8 character string of capital letters and numbers.

  • The Use: When the Lorex Home app asks for a "Device Password" during setup, enter this code. Once the camera is linked, you will be prompted to change it to something private.

4. What if the Default Doesn't Work?

If you tried 000000 and admin and they failed, it means a custom password was set previously. Because Lorex is highly secure, you cannot "guess" your way past this. You will need to perform a reset:

  • QR Code Reset: On the login screen, click "Forgot Password" to generate a QR code you can scan with your phone.

  • Hardware Reset: Locate the small reset button on the back of the NVR (or inside the case) and hold it for 15 seconds while powering the unit on.

Security Checklist for Your Lorex System

  • Avoid Simple Patterns: Don't use 12345678 or your street address.

  • Enable Pattern Unlock: On NVRs, you can draw a shape (like on an Android phone) to log in faster.

  • Check Your Email: Ensure the recovery email on your Lorex account is active so you can receive reset codes instantly.
