Hikvision Default Password: The Complete 2026 Guide
If you are looking for the "factory default" password for a Hikvision camera or NVR in 2026, the answer depends entirely on when your device was made.
The Short Answer: Most Hikvision devices manufactured after 2015 do not have a default password. They are shipped in an "Inactive" state, and you must create a password yourself during the first setup.
1. Legacy Hikvision Default Passwords (Pre-2015)
If you are working with an older piece of hardware that has never been updated, you can try these classic combinations:
Username | Default Password | Notes |
admin | 12345 | The most common legacy default. |
admin | 123456 | Used on older HiLook and OEM models. |
admin | admin | Very rare, used on early analog DVRs. |
admin | 12345678a | Sometimes used in older European firmware. |
2. Modern Hikvision: The "Inactive" Status
If your device is new (or has been factory reset), it is Inactive. When you first access it via a web browser or the SADP Tool, you will be prompted to "Activate" the device by creating a password.
Password Requirements: Hikvision now requires a "Strong Password"—at least 8 characters including uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols (e.g., Secure2026!).
Initial IP Address: * IP Cameras: 192.168.1.64
NVRs / DVRs: 192.0.0.64
3. What if I can't log in with the default?
If 12345 doesn't work and you weren't the one who set the password, the device is already active. You have three official options to regain access:
Option A: The Hik-Connect App (Self-Service)
On the NVR/Camera login screen, click "Forgot Password."
Choose "Verify by Hik-Connect." A QR code will appear.
Open your Hik-Connect app, go to More > Reset Device Password, and scan the QR code.
Type the 6-digit code you receive on your phone back into the NVR to set a new password.
Option B: The SADP Tool (Professional)
If the device isn't on your Hik-Connect account, you'll need a PC.
Download the SADP Tool.
Select the device and click "Forgot Password." 3. Export the XML file and email it to your local Hikvision distributor or Hikvision Support. They will send back an unlock file.
Option C: Physical Reset Button
Many Hikvision IP cameras have a physical reset button hidden under a waterproof cap or inside the dome.
The Trick: Hold the button for 15 seconds while plugging the power in. This will return the camera to the "Inactive" state, allowing you to create a new password.
Quick Access Table
Item | Value |

Old Default Password | 12345 |
New Default Password | None (Activation Required) |
