Dahua Default Password: Everything You Need to Know

If you are setting up a new Dahua security system or trying to access an old one, the "default password" is likely the first hurdle you'll encounter. However, as of 2026, Dahua has moved away from universal default passwords for security reasons.

Here is the current state of Dahua login credentials and how to access your device.

1. The "Default" Credentials List

For older Dahua units (pre-2020) or uninitialized devices, try these common factory combinations:

Important: If your camera or NVR was manufactured in the last few years, it likely has no default password. Dahua now requires "Device Initialization," where you must create a unique password the very first time you power it on.

2. Why "admin/admin" Might Not Work

If you've tried the defaults above and they fail, one of two things is happening:

  1. Initialization: The device is brand new and is waiting for you to create a password using the Dahua ConfigTool or a monitor connected to the NVR.

  2. Already Set: The device was previously configured, and the default was changed. In this case, you must perform a password reset (see our Dahua Password Reset Guide).

3. How to Initialize a New Dahua Device

If your camera is showing as "Uninitialized" in the ConfigTool, follow these steps:

  1. Download ConfigTool: Install the latest Dahua ConfigTool on your PC.

  2. Search: Click "Search Setting" and ensure your PC is on the same network as the camera.

  3. Initialize: Select the camera and click the Initialize button.

  4. Create Password: You will be prompted to enter a new password (8–32 characters).

  5. Recovery Email: Crucial Step! Enter your email address here. This allows you to reset the password via a QR code if you ever forget it.

4. Default IP Address and Ports

To log in via a web browser, you also need the network location:

  • Default IP Address: 192.168.1.108

  • HTTP Port: 80

  • TCP Port: 37777 (Used by DMSS mobile app and SmartPSS)

5. Safety Checklist for Dahua Passwords

To keep your footage private in 2026, follow these industry-standard security rules:

  • Change It Immediately: Never leave a camera on admin/admin. Hackers use automated bots to scan the internet for these common defaults.

  • Disable Default Accounts: If possible, delete the 888888 and 666666 accounts once you have set up your main admin.

  • Avoid Special Character Issues: Dahua systems sometimes struggle with apostrophes (') or semicolons (;) in passwords. Stick to letters, numbers, and standard symbols like @ or !.
