How to Reset Swann Password: Tips for DVR and NVR Password Recovery

Resetting a Swann password can be tricky because the method changes depending on whether you have a modern "Swann Security" system or an older "HomeSafe" or "SwannView" model. In 2026, the most reliable way to regain access is by using the MAC address recovery method or the mobile app.

1. The MAC Address Recovery Method (Most DVRs/NVRs)

For many Swann systems, the MAC Address of the recorder acts as a "master recovery code."1


  1. Find the MAC Address:

    • Look for a sticker on the bottom or back of the unit.

    • Alternatively, use the SADP Tool or HomeSafe Config Tool on a PC connected to the same network.2


  2. Access the Reset Screen: On your NVR/DVR monitor, right-click and go to Main Menu.3 When the login box appears, click Forgot Password.


  3. Enter the Code: * If prompted for a "Recovery Code," enter the MAC address without dashes or colons (e.g., BC51FE112233).4


    • If prompted for a "MAC Address," enter it with colons (e.g., BC:51:FE:11:22:33).

  4. Reboot & Reset: The system will typically reboot and prompt you to create a brand-new admin password.

2. Using the Swann Security App (Cloud Systems)

If your system is paired with the Swann Security App (common for 2026 models), you can reset it via your phone.5


  1. Open the App: Tap Forgot Password on the login screen.6


  2. Verify Email: Enter your registered email address. Swann will send a reset link or a 6-digit verification code.7


  3. Sync to Recorder: Once you reset your account password, the app will often allow you to update the device password if the two were linked during setup.

3. The "Super Password" Utility

If the MAC address doesn't work, your system may require a Random Code reset.

  1. Click Forgot Password on the login screen until an 8-digit Random Code appears.8


  2. Do not close this window. Closing it will generate a new code, making the old one useless.

  3. Download the Swann SuperPassword Utility for Windows.

  4. Enter the 8-digit code into the utility to generate a 12-digit Super Password.

  5. Type that 12-digit code into the "Super Password" field on your recorder to unlock it.

4. The Physical Reset Button (Hardware Fix)

If you are completely locked out and have no network access, you must use the physical button.

  • Locate the Button: Look for a small pinhole on the back or side of the NVR labeled "Reset."

  • The Procedure: While the unit is powered ON, use a paperclip to press and hold the button for 30 seconds.9


  • Warning: This will wipe all your settings, including network configurations and camera names, returning the system to factory defaults (Username: admin / Password: admin or 123456).
