How to Reset a Hanwha Wisenet Password: Recovery Guide

If you have lost the password for your Hanwha (formerly Samsung Wisenet) camera or recorder, there is no "master password" or back-door recovery. For security reasons, the only way to regain access is a full factory reset.

Here is the step-by-step guide to resetting Hanwha devices in 2026.

1. Resetting Hanwha IP Cameras (Physical Button)

Nearly every Hanwha IP camera features a physical initialization button.

  • Locate the Button:

    • Dome Cameras: Usually requires removing the outer dome cover. The button is on the main camera module.

    • Bullet/PTZ: Often found behind a small waterproof flap or rubber seal on the bottom or back of the unit.

  • The Procedure:

    1. Ensure the camera is powered on and fully booted.

    2. Press and hold the Reset Button for 5 to 10 seconds.

    3. Release the button once the status LED flashes amber or the camera reboots.

  • Initial Login:

    • The IP address will revert to its default (usually 192.168.1.100).

    • Use the Wisenet Device Manager to find it.

    • Username: admin

    • Password: You will be forced to create a new secure password upon your first login.

2. Resetting Hanwha NVRs and DVRs

If you are locked out of your recorder, the process typically requires a monitor and the physical unit.

  • Using the Reset Hole:

    1. Locate the small, recessed pinhole (usually on the back panel labeled "RESET").

    2. Use a paperclip to press and hold the button for 5 seconds while the unit is on.

    3. The unit will beep and reboot to the initial "Setup Wizard."

  • Using the Remote Control (Older Models):

    • Some legacy Hanwha/Samsung recorders can be reset using a specific key sequence on the IR remote. If you still have the original remote, check the back for a sequence like FREEZE -> ALARM -> FREEZE -> ... which triggers a factory default prompt.

3. Software Reset (Wisenet Viewer)

If you can access the software but just need to clear a specific user, you can sometimes "initialize" settings through the Wisenet Device Manager or Wisenet Viewer.

  • In Device Manager, select the camera, click "Credential," and choose "Change Password." If the camera is in a "Need Password" state (factory default), you can set it here without knowing the old one.
