How to Reset Amcrest Password: Recovering Your Security Camera Login
Getting locked out of your Amcrest system is a common issue, especially if you haven't logged in for a while. Depending on your specific hardware—whether it's a Wi-Fi camera, a Turret/Bullet IP camera, or an NVR/DVR—there are three primary ways to regain access in 2026.
Method 1: The "Forgot Password" Email Reset
If you set up an email address during the initial configuration, this is the most non-invasive way to reset your password without losing your settings or recordings.
Open the Login Page: Access your camera or NVR via a web browser (using its IP address) or a monitor.1
Click "Forgot Password": Look for the lock icon or the "Forgot Password" link on the login screen.2
QR Code Scan: A QR code will appear on the screen.3
Use the App: Open the Amcrest View Pro or Amcrest Home app on your smartphone.
Navigate to Settings > Password Reset.
Receive Your Code: Scan the QR code. Amcrest will send a temporary security code to your registered email.
Enter and Reset: Type the code into the "Security Code" field on your NVR or browser and create a new password.4
Method 2: Physical Factory Reset (Hardware Button)
If you never set up an email or you’ve inherited a system from a previous owner, you must perform a hard factory reset. This returns the device to its original "out-of-the-box" state.5
For IP/Wi-Fi Cameras:
Locate the Button: Look for a small button (sometimes behind a waterproof hatch near the SD card slot) labeled "RESET" or "RST."6
Power On: Ensure the camera is plugged into power.
The 30-Second Rule: Press and hold the button for 30 seconds.7
Listen/Watch: You may hear a voice prompt saying "Reset successful" or see the LED light flash red.
Default Login: Once it reboots, the password will revert to the factory default: admin.8
For NVRs and DVRs:
Open the Case: Most Amcrest recorders require you to remove the top metal cover.9
Find the Button: Look on the motherboard (often near the heat sink) for a tiny tactile button.
Hold and Power: With the unit unplugged, hold the button. While holding it, plug the power back in and continue holding for 15 seconds.
Re-Initialize: The NVR will reboot to the setup wizard, allowing you to create a new admin password.
Method 3: Technical Support "Random Code"
For older analog DVRs (960H/720P models) that don't have reset buttons, you must contact Amcrest support directly.
Get the Code: On the login screen, click "Forgot Password." The system will generate a Random Code.
Contact Amcrest: Call 1-888-212-7538 or use their online Password Reset Request form.
Verification: You will need to provide your serial number and proof of ownership (like an Amazon invoice or receipt).
Master Password: They will provide a one-time "Master Password" valid only for that day to unlock your system.
