At Cleveland Security Cameras, our technical engineering team knows that even the most user-friendly systems sometimes need a "fresh start." Whether you’ve forgotten your password, are moving your system to a new network, or are troubleshooting a complex connectivity issue, a factory reset is often the most effective tool in your maintenance kit.
In this guide, our Systems Support Department breaks down the professional methods for restoring your Reolink hardware to its original factory state.
1. The Hard Reset: Physical Button Methods
If you are locked out of your device, a physical hard reset is necessary. Our field technicians recommend ensuring the device is powered on throughout the entire process.
For PoE and WiFi Bullet/Dome Cameras
Locate the Reset Button: This is typically found on the "pigtail" cable bundle or behind a small weather-sealed door near the microSD card slot.
The Hold: Press and hold the button for 10 seconds.
Completion: You will see the status LED blink or hear the camera rotate (if it is a PTZ model). The camera is now reset.
For Battery-Powered Cameras (Argus, Go, Eco Series)
Locate the Reset Hole: These models use a pinhole reset for better weatherproofing, usually found near the power switch or SD slot.
The Technique: Insert a straightened paperclip or the included reset needle.
The Signal: Press and hold for 5 seconds. You will hear a short "chime" or piece of music indicating the reset was successful.
For Reolink NVRs (Recorders)
Standard Models (RLN8, RLN16, RLN36): Most modern 2026 units require you to briefly remove the outer casing. Locate the small button on the PCB (main circuit board). Press and hold it for 10 seconds until you hear a loud buzzing "bee" sound.
RLN12W (Wireless NVR): Locate the physical button on the back panel and hold for 10 seconds until the buzzer sounds.
2. The Soft Reset: Restoring via Software
If you still have access to your device via the Reolink App or Client, our Digital Infrastructure Team recommends a "Restore" to keep your hardware pristine.
Launch the Interface: Open the Reolink App or PC Client.
Navigate to Maintenance: Go to Device Settings > System > Maintenance.
Restore: Click the Restore button.
Safety Note: This method clears all settings (WiFi, Motion Zones, User Accounts) but will not erase your recordings on the SD card or HDD unless you specifically choose to format the drive.
3. Post-Reset Configuration (The "Peace of Mind" Phase)
Once the reset is complete, your device will revert to its factory identity. Our Security Architecture Team reminds you of the following 2026 standards:
Default Username: admin
Default Password: (Blank). You will be forced to create a strong, new password during the initialization wizard.
Initialization: We recommend using the Reolink App to scan the QR code on the device for the fastest setup.
