Modern Pelco cameras are engineered with physical "firmware revert" buttons. Our field specialists recommend the following procedures for the most common 2026 models.

Physical Hardware Reset (Pinhole Method)

  1. Locate the Button: On Sarix IME series domes, the button is typically behind the lower dome bubble. On Optera panoramic units, look near the SD card slot.

  2. Power On: Ensure the camera is connected to PoE or a local power source.

  3. The Technique: Using a straightened paperclip, press and hold the reset button.

    • For Sarix/Spectra: Hold for 10 seconds.

    • For Optera: Hold for 30 seconds.

  4. Reboot Cycle: The LED will likely flash red. Allow 3–5 minutes for the camera to cycle. It will default to 192.168.0.20 if no DHCP server is found.

The "Power-Boot" Reset (For Non-Responsive Cameras)

If the camera is not responding to the standard button press, our technicians use a power-boot sequence:

  • Disconnect power.

  • Hold the reset button down.

  • Reconnect power while still holding the button for 15 seconds.

2. Resetting Pelco NVRs & Recorders (VideoXpert & Digital Sentry)

Recorders are the "brains" of your system. Resetting them is a high-level operation that usually involves the VideoXpert (VxToolbox) software or internal recovery tools.

VideoXpert Professional (VxPro) Reset

  • Via Software: Open VxToolbox, select the System tab, and navigate to Restore System Settings.

  • Credentials: After a reset, you will be prompted to create a new administrative user immediately to comply with 2026 cybersecurity standards.

Digital Sentry (DSSRV/DSSRV2) Hard Reset

  • Recovery Drive: These units typically require a Pelco USB Recovery Key.

  • Process: Boot the NVR from the USB drive and select Option 2 (Factory Restore).

  • Warning: Our data management team reminds you that this will format all hard drives, erasing all historical video data.

3. Legacy DVR Reset (DX4700 / DX4800 Series)

For our neighbors still utilizing reliable legacy HVRs, the reset is performed through the local monitor interface.

  1. Log in as admin (Default password: admin).

  2. Navigate to Setup > System > Properties.

  3. Click Factory Default and confirm.

4. Post-Reset Architecture: Re-Securing Your System

Once your hardware is reset, our Cybersecurity Division recommends three immediate steps:

  1. Update Firmware: Always download the latest 2026 patches from the Pelco support portal.

  2. Assign Static IPs: For large-scale scalability, avoid relying on DHCP for cameras.

  3. Complex Passwords: In 2026, "admin/admin" is no longer a valid security posture. Use unique, 12-character minimum strings.
