Performing a factory reset on Avigilon hardware is a high-security process. Unlike many consumer brands, Avigilon devices often revert to a state where they have no password, requiring you to set a new one immediately using their configuration tools.
1. Avigilon IP Cameras (Hardware Reset)
This method works for almost all Avigilon IP cameras (H4, H5, H6, Bullet, and Dome).
Preparation: Ensure the camera is powered on (connected to PoE or a power supply).
Access: Remove the dome cover or the waterproof interface door to find the Firmware Revert/Reset button (usually marked with an "R" or a small pinhole).
The Process: * Insert a straightened paperclip or pin into the reset hole.
Gently press and hold the button for 3–5 seconds (wait for the status LEDs beside the button to turn off or flash).
Release the button.
Result: The camera will reboot. Use the Avigilon Camera Configuration Tool or a web browser to find its IP address. It will now be "Uninitialized," and you will be prompted to create a new administrator password.
2. Avigilon NVR & AI Appliances
Caution: A factory reset on an NVR deletes all recorded video and configuration data. Do not attempt to "re-image" the drive as this may void your warranty.
Connect Hardware: Attach a monitor (VGA) and a keyboard directly to the NVR.
Reboot: Power cycle the unit.
Trigger Recovery: As the BIOS is loading (while the Avigilon logo and progress bar are visible), press and hold the F key.
Confirm: Within one minute, a bootloader screen will appear. It should say "reset latched -- waiting for release."
Release: Let go of the F key. The system will now wipe the configuration and restore the factory-installed firmware.
Setup: Once finished, you must reinstall the latest ACC (Avigilon Control Center) software and reconfigure your storage and cameras.
3. Avigilon Control Center (ACC) Software Reset
If you have lost the Administrator password for the software but still have access to the server's Windows OS:
Shut Down: Open the ACC Admin Tool and click Shut Down.
Locate Config: Navigate to the drive that holds your "Config Volume" (usually D: or C:).
Path: Go to \AvigilonConfig\Db\DirectoryShared\Users.
Delete Files: Delete all files inside the Users folder. This wipes all user accounts and groups.
Restart: In the Admin Tool, click Start Up.
Log In: Open the ACC Client. You can now log in using the factory default:
Username: administrator
Password: (Leave Blank)
Immediately create a new, strong password when prompted.
Expert Tip for 2026
If you are doing a reset on an H5M or specialized Fisheye camera, the reset button is sometimes integrated into the Connection LED itself. You have to press down on the LED light with a tool to trigger the reset.
