How to Find the IP Address of My Security Camera
Finding your security camera's IP address is the first step toward remote viewing and advanced configuration. Whether you are using a wired PoE camera or a wireless Wi-Fi model, the IP address is the "digital home address" that allows your computer or NVR to talk to the camera.1
Here are the four most reliable methods to uncover your camera's IP address in minutes.
1. Use a Manufacturer Discovery Tool (Easiest Method)
Most professional camera manufacturers provide a free software utility designed to scan your network and find their specific devices.2 These tools work even if the camera is on a different subnet or has a factory-default IP.
Hikvision: Use the SADP Tool.3
Dahua / Lorex: Use the ConfigTool.4
Reolink: Use the Reolink Client.5
Vivotek: Use the Shepherd utility.
Generic/ONVIF: Use ONVIF Device Manager (ODM).
Pro Tip: Ensure your computer is connected to the same router or switch as the camera before running the scan.6
2. Check Your Router’s "Attached Devices" List
Since your router is the "traffic controller" of your home network, it keeps a list of every device it has assigned an address to.7
Log into your router (usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 in your web browser).8
Look for a section labeled "DHCP Client List," "Connected Devices," or "Device Map."9
Search for the name of your camera manufacturer (e.g., "Amcrest" or "Hanwha").
If the name isn't clear, look for the MAC Address listed on the sticker on the camera body; the IP address will be right next to it.
3. Use a Network Scanner App (Mobile)
If you don't have a PC handy, you can use your smartphone to scan your Wi-Fi network.10
Download "Fing" (available on iOS and Android).11
Connect your phone to the same Wi-Fi as your camera.12
Tap "Scan for devices."
The app will list all IP addresses on the network and often identify them by brand (e.g., "TP-Link Camera" or "Axis Communications").
4. The Command Prompt "ARP" Method (Windows)
If you want to find the IP address without downloading any extra software, you can use the built-in Windows Command Prompt.13
Press Windows Key + R, type cmd, and hit Enter.14
Type arp -a and press Enter.
This will display a list of all IP addresses and their corresponding MAC addresses currently communicating with your PC.15
Compare the "Physical Address" (MAC) in the list to the one printed on your camera's sticker to find the matching IP.
Summary of Default IP Addresses
If your camera is brand new and not connected to a router with DHCP, it might be sitting on its factory default IP. Try these common defaults in your browser:
Manufacturer | Default IP Address |
Hikvision | 192.168.1.64 |
Dahua / Lorex | 192.168.1.108 |
Axis | 192.168.0.90 |
Foscam | 192.168.1.10 |
TP-Link | 192.168.1.10 |
