In 2026, the answer depends on whether you are talking about your Internal network (inside your home/office) or the Public internet (external access).
For almost every CCTV system, the answer is "Yes" for internal use and "Probably No" for external use.
1. Internal (Local) Static IP: YES
You should definitely assign a static IP address to your NVR and each individual IP camera within your local network.
Why: If your power goes out or your router reboots, it might assign a new IP address to your NVR. If your phone app or computer software is looking for the "old" address, it will show as Offline.
